Martial Activities
Sacred Stone is home to many well-known fighters of the Kingdom. Our Barony also presents martial activities for young and old in each of the venues of interest that our Society presents. From individual and melee activities in both armored and rapier combat, archery, thrown weapons and youth combat – there is something for gentles of all ages.

Please inspect your armor and weapons prior to practice. Authorized marshals must be present for all combat activities.
Loaner Gear & Getting Started (Newcomers)
New to SCA Combat? You do not need your own armor or weapons to get started! Contact the Knight Marshal before coming so we can have loaner gear ready for you.
How Authorization Works
To fight in official SCA tournaments, melees, or war scenarios, combatants must hold a valid authorization card issued by the Kingdom. Authorization ensures that every fighter understands safety rules, blows, gear requirements, and control on the field.
- Step 1: Train at Local Practice Work with local fighters and marshals to learn basic armor/gear requirements, target areas, calibration, and safety rules.
- Step 2: Request an Authorization Bout When your local marshal agrees you are ready, request an authorization bout at a local practice or official Kingdom event where inspecting marshals are present.
- Step 3: Complete the Field Test & Written Quiz You will demonstrate your gear’s compliance, show control and safety in a live bout with an authorizing marshal, and answer basic rule questions.
- Step 4: Receive Your Authorization Once passed, the marshal signs your temporary paperwork, and your official authorization is submitted to the Atlantian Minister of the List (MOL) database.
Fighter Practice & Schedules
Practices for heavy combat, rapier, archery, and youth martial arts are held regularly across the Barony. Because times and outdoor locations vary by canton and weather, practice announcements are posted across our official channels:
